Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe

At Mill Rythe, we have just three rules. Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe.  We are committed to creating an environment where exemplary behaviour is at the heart of productive learning. Everyone is expected to maintain the highest standards of personal conduct, to accept responsibility for their behaviour and encourage others to do the same.

Our rules echo our core values of kindness, aspiration, honesty, respect and responsibility with a heavy emphasis on respectful behaviour, a partnership approach to managing poor conduct and dynamic interventions that support staff and learners.

Our rules can be applied to a variety of situations and are taught and modelled explicitly. We also understand that for some children following our behaviour expectations are beyond their developmental level. In this case, these children will have bespoke positive behaviour plans which may include rewards to reinforce positive behaviour.

At Mill Rythe Junior School we believe that every child should be valued and their unique set of talents and abilities celebrated.

We celebrate children’s achievements in many ways including:

  • House points for demonstrating beautiful manners, our school values, learning behaviours and producing work children are rightly proud of.
  • A weekly Value Award for one child in each class who has demonstrated one or more of our school values.
  • Above and Beyond Awards for children who try their very best every day.
  • Great Citizen Awards for children who have made a significant contribution to our school or wider community.
  • Celebrating caring attitudes through the awarding of Care the Bear.
  • Regular opportunities in whole-school assemblies to celebrate achievements out of school i.e. sporting or musical successes.
  • Phone calls home to parents.
  • Marvellous Me! App
  • End of year awards for year 6 children leaving the school.
  • Termly and annual attendance awards.

In addition to this, we believe that simply saying ‘well done’ or ‘thank you’ to members of our school community who have exemplified the school values is a powerful way of promoting a positive school culture.
