Pupil Premium
What is the Pupil Premium Grant?
The Pupil Premium Grant is funding provided to schools and is additional to main school funding. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium Grant is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individuals in their care. The Pupil Premium Grant is allocated to the school and is generated by children;
- Who are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM).
- Were or are registered as eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last six years (FSM6/Ever 6).
- Who have been looked after immediately before being adopted, or placed on special guardianship or residence order immediately after being looked after (Post LAC). The funding for children who are currently identified as being ‘looked after’ is a separate allocation and is paid termly.
A Service Premium is generated by children from Service Families who are currently in the Armed Forces or if the child has been registered as a Service Child since May 2015. (Ever 6 services).
How much is it?
The level of the premium in 2024-25 is £1480 per pupil fitting the criteria above for FSM/FSM Ever 6 children (Deprivation) £2570 for Post Looked After Children and £340 for children from Service Families.
What should it be used for?
Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium Grant as they see fit. However, at Mill Rythe Junior School, we are accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils. By publishing online our intended spend for the year and information about how we have used the money, we can ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment/progress of pupils covered by the premium and the extra support they receive.
In making provision for ‘underachieving pupils’ we recognise that not all pupils who receive Free School Meals or who qualify for the Pupil Premium Grant will be underachieving. We also recognise that not all pupils who are underachieving are registered or qualify for Free School Meals. We will use the Pupil Premium Grant to support any pupils or groups of pupils that we legitimately believe to be underachieving.
